Will the prints fade over time?
Honest answer: thermal prints are not archival. Kept in a journal, a drawer, or a sleeve, they hold up for years. Taped to a sunlit window or left in a hot car, they’ll lighten over months — that’s true of every thermal print, including your receipts. Keep them out of direct sun and heat and they stay sharp. If a print matters permanently, reprinting takes four seconds and costs you nothing but paper.
Do I ever have to buy ink or toner?
Never. There is no cartridge in this product and no slot for one. The print head applies heat directly to coated thermal paper. The only consumable is the paper roll itself — and it comes in plain or peel-and-stick.
Is it really only black and white?
Yes, and that’s the aesthetic you’re buying. Printly renders photos as high-contrast halftone — visible grain, deep blacks, the look of newsprint or a darkroom contact sheet. If you want glossy color 4×6s, a photo lab does that better. If you want prints that look like they came out of a zine, this is the one.
Will it work with my phone?
It pairs over Bluetooth with iOS and Android. Install the app, hold the button until the ring lights, and it connects. No account required to print, no cables, no desktop driver. First print usually happens inside two minutes of opening the box.
Can it survive being thrown in a bag?
The shell is a single seamless soft-touch housing — no screws to loosen, no hinged flaps to snap, no protruding lens or screen to crack. The soft coating absorbs knocks instead of scuffing. Keep the paper slot facing up so a spare roll doesn’t unspool, and it travels fine.
How long does one roll last?
Depends entirely on print length. Small square photos and labels get you a long way through a roll; full-length strips and long notes eat it faster. Most people find one roll covers weeks of ordinary use. Refills are standard 57 mm thermal rolls — you’re not locked into a proprietary format.
